On 07/22 Minitab disclosed some material in its blog about the various analyzes possible within Minitab that can be replicated for visualization, predictability and preparation of the 2024 Olympics.
With the start of one of the two largest sporting events in the world, it is impossible not to think about how the trainers and teams prepare for this very important event for every nation.
Over time, as technology advances, sports are not based solely on the strategies and skills of each team. In modern times, as strategies are only defined based on data analysis, these dice are used for the performance of the player in a preparation, for the performance of each selection throughout the Olympic editions or at the same time predictability of victories and medals throughout the competition. Is the best way to analyze these information other than the best market statistical software? See simulations for the Olympics using Minitab below.
Athlete preparation
For decades, the preparation of athletes is not based solely on their level of individual and collective ability or nutrition, we need to compete in two sports at which athletes need much more than just a physical fitness to compete.
Nowadays every minimum detail matters, it must always be observed and analyzed by the technical team of the selections. Normally, preparation for competitions involves a good night's sleep, nutritional preparation, physical and mental conditioning, etc.
In order to simulate these situations, in our part, Minitab carried out a survey of elements normally used in the training of Olympic swimmers. A spine diagram was used, such a tool that can be found in the Minitab Workspace and Minitab Engage products, to observe all the different conditions of development of an Olympic trainer. See below:
Dice Insights
As most of us are not competitors, we will always be connected to television or streaming that can provide us with a decent view of the competitions. Logically, we will always go wrong for our selection or for the selection that we sympathize with more. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, around 3 billion people (the world's population goal) will attend at least one part of the competition.
I used Minitab as the Chart Builder in Minitab Statistical Software in order to visualize the medal count for the main participating countries in the London, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo Olympics. Look at the results below:
In both of the last 3 competitions, it was possible to analyze that the United States is the country that most consistently wins medals. Furthermore, it can be analyzed that compared to the 2016 Olympics, the 2020 competition has a considerably tighter dispute, given that the other countries obtain more medals than in past competitions, and the United States, fewer medals in relation to 2016.
How many medals will you have in Paris 2024?
I don't study above, we observed a visible dominance of the United States in the last 3 Olympics, and it is doubtful, how many medals can we win this year? We clearly know that we cannot predict the outcome with 100% certainty, but an analysis of trends and time series can give us a very good estimate of how many medals the United States can win at the Olympics this year based on the Olympic medal trends since 1964. See below:
The number of medals for the United States has been relatively high since the 1984 Olympics. Based on historical trends, it is reasonable that the United States will win around 113 medals in Paris 2024.
